Sackets Harbor to Brewerton NY and End of Journey - Sept. 6-17

Gananoque Ontario is marked with the white pin; Sackets Harbor NY with the blue pin:

On Sept. 6 we arrived at Navy Point Marine in Sackets Harbor NY.  This historic village is the site of significant battles in the War of 1812 and the home of Madison Barracks, a U.S. army base from just after the War of 1812 until the end of WWII.  Madison Barracks was home at one time to Ulysses Grant and Gen. Mark Clark, as well as the childhood home to both Fiorello LaGuardia and June's father George Friedman.

Sackets Harbor today is a charming village with restaurants, shops, and historic sites.

June's grandfather, Michael Friedman, a Russian immigrant, was a carpenter employed at Madison Barracks. In 1910, the other side of the duplex was home to the family of a soldier from the 24th Infantry Regiment, aka Buffalo Soldiers.

On Sat. Sept. 9, we cruised 4 hours to Oswego NY and the next day on the Oswego Canal to Brewerton NY where Sea Bee came out of the water for the winter inside Winter Harbor's enormous facilities.

Once Sea Bee was out of the water, we drove to Arlington VA to await the passing of Hurricane Irma, and enjoy three adorable grandchildren.  We arrived home in St. Augustine September 17.  Everything at home was pretty much in order, thanks to our good friends, the Raybuck family, who hurricane-prepped our house before evacuating themselves!
