Beautiful Beaufort SC - June 7-9

June writing from Charleston, SC: Beaufort SC is one of my all time favorite places. We docked at the Beaufort City Marina, which boasts a great location right next to Waterfront Park and historic downtown streets with lovely art galleries and restaurants.  Favorite dinner: Old Bull Tavern.  Marina facilities and amenities are excellent and the people could not be more helpful.

We spent hours riding our bikes around town, enjoying gracious antebellum homes framed by ancient live oaks and peaceful marsh and river views.

Beaufort's early history is on display as well:
Construction using shells, which we in St. Augustine call "coquina"
Federal style John Mark Verdier House c. 1804

 Early houses of worship:

First African Baptist Church c. 1865
Beth Israel Synagogue c. 1908
