June 3, 2017

Lots of things have happened in the last three days.

On the afternoon of June 1st, our neighbors gave us a ride to Ortega Landing Marina,
where we have kept the boat since we moved here.  The plan was to motor the boat about half a mile down the Ortega River to the Huckins Boat Yard to have the boat hauled out of the water and have the bottom pressured washed.  However, some other boat declared an emergency since it was sinking, so it was pulled into the haulout slip and we were put off until first thing the next morning.

We arrived at the haul out slip at 7:30, and was promptly hauled out of the water and started cleaning the bottom.    What a mess!

Normally this operation takes 90 minutes, but today it took almost three hours.  The sea-life was sticking hard to the bottom.

We finally pulled out of the yard at 11:30 and started our journey to Lang's Marina in  Mary's,
GA.
Downtown Jacksonville
Normally we would stop in Fernandina, but that marina was completely demolished in the hurricane.

I had heard some nasty comments about Lang's Marina from other boaters, but some people are always negative, so I try not to believe too much negativity.  I should have believed it in this case.

The marina was a dump.

The docks were literally falling apart, the power pedestals didn't have power (even though I specifically asked the dockmaster if power was available), and most of the other boats there were old derelicts.

There is a fairly decent seafood restaurant at the marina, with good food and ample servings, but it took almost an hour to get served.

Oh well, we won't be going back to this one.

We got up today at crack of dawn, pushed off the dock at Lang's at 7:00 a.m., and headed out into the ocean for the ten hour trip to Savannah.  We had great weather, at least no rain but very hot, and arrived at Thunderbolt Marina in Savannah
at 5:30 in the afternoon.

More tomorrow.
